DOMESTIC refuse collections in the South County Dublin Council area may be halted from next Friday after the serving of strike notice on behalf of 105 council workers.
The dispute concerns what the unions involved say is the council's breaking of an agreement on the restructuring of lorry routes and the introduction of "wheelie bins".
According to a SIPTU spokesman, the agreement was to involve the payment of £1,000 to each of the 105 domestic refuse collectors, the redeployment of surplus staff to other work and the purchase of four new bin lorries.
However, only 67 of the 105 workers have received the £1,000, the new lorries have not been bought and the redeployment has not happened, he said.
A council spokesman said yesterday some workers had not collected refuse from all the houses on their routes, and this was why they had not got the £1,000 payment. Staff redeployment would happen when the new routes were operated properly.
