LONDON - The Conservative Party was facing a fresh scandal last night after it was reported that a married Tory MP, Mr Piers Merchant, had an affair with a 17 year old nightclub hostess.
The Sun said the 46 year old father of two had a relationship with the blonde teenager while his wife stayed home in his Beckenham constituency in Kent. The MP denied having an affair with the young woman, the newspaper said.
The report claimed the two met last October when the girl, Ms Anna Cox, volunteered to help with campaign leaflet deliveries. The newspaper published photographs which showed them kissing in public. But the MP told the Sun: "Anna is a dear friend of mine and has been helping my campaign. But there is no question of us having an affair. I have never made love to her."
