WASHINGTON - A new US government report criticises the Pentagon for failing to find "substantial evidence" linking nerve gas and chemical weapons to Gulf War syndrome, the New York Times reported yesterday.

In a report to be released this month the investigative arm of the US Congress found that the Defence Department should not rule out the possibility that Iraq had biological weapons, the newspaper said. An estimated 80,000 Gulf War veterans have reported symptoms that have been classified as Gulf War syndrome.
