A NEW project offering information and advice to families was opened by Ombudsman for Children Emily Logan yesterday.

The family support project was developed by Barnardos with the HSE, following a study on the needs of children and families in the south Tipperary area.

The scheme in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, provides services to families, grandparents, children and young people. The project can offer intensive support to 13 families at any one time. This can include one-to-one work and parent coaching.

The service will also set up a friendship group and after-school programmes.
