Dublin ranks eighth among the EU's capital cities for both overall quality of life and personal safety, according to a global survey.
The survey by Mercer consultants named Vienna as the best EU capital to live in; Bratislava, Slovakia ranks lowest.
Dublin improved its position by one place in the global for quality of life survey to 22nd where the two Swiss cities of Geneva and Zurich were ranked top. In the global survey on personal safety Ireland was ranked 27th. Luxemborg was top and Warsaw was bottom of the personal safety survey in the EU.
Mr Brian Duncan, Head of Mercer's human capital practice in Ireland, attributed improvements in the transport infrastructure, most noticeably the Luas, for Dublin's better ranking.
Mercer ranked the cities against New York as the base city which has a rating of 100. The analysis is part of a worldwide quality of life survey covering 215 cities.
"The top-ranking cities for personal safety and security are in politically stable countries with good international relations and sustainable economic growth," said Mr Slagin Parakatil, senior Researcher at Mercer.
"Most of the low-scoring cities are in countries with civil unrest, little law enforcement and high levels of crime."
The world's least secure city is Baghdad due to civil unrest and threats of attack in the city. Other low-ranking cities include Abidjan in the Ivory Coast, Bangui in Central African Republic and Port Harcourt and Lagos in Nigeria.
Luxembourg scores highest for personal safety and security, in first position, followed by Swiss and Scandinavian cities. Other high-scoring cities include Vienna ranked 6th, followed by Düsseldorf, Munich, Nürnberg, Frankfurt and Oslo sharing 8th place with scores of 113.
