A MAN was in Garda custody last night following a dramatic high-speed pursuit across parts of Limerick city.
The man, in his 40s, was being detained at Henry Street Garda station under road traffic legislation on suspicion of drink-driving after members of the armed regional response unit intercepted his vehicle and arrested him.
The drama unfolded just before 5pm in the busy William Street area of the city centre. “I just saw the yellow car and the guards were coming against him and when the car crashed it took six of them to arrest him,” said Tim Hourigan, who witnessed the drama as it unfolded. Martin O’Connor, who works at O’Connor’s Cameras, said it was lucky nobody was killed or injured. It is believed the driver of the car had been spotted driving erratically in the Thomondgate area.
