Four men were still being questioned by gardaí last night in connection with a foiled armed robbery in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, on Thursday afternoon.

Gardaí believe the men were about to rob a cash delivery to a local company of up to €100,000. A shotgun was found in one of their three vehicles.

A team of armed officers from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Emergency Response Unit moved in on the men at Market Green, Balbriggan, just after 3pm.

The suspects were detained in relation to the firearm discovered and are being held under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act at Balbriggan, Santry and Drogheda Garda stations. They can be held without charge until Sunday at 3pm.
