Thursday's drowning tragedy off the Kerry coast drew expressions of sympathy in the Chamber.

The Marine and Natural Resources Minister, Dr Woods, said he had been distressed to hear of the terrible event. Extending his sympathy to the family and friends of the dead couple, he said Mr and Mrs O'Donoghue had been particularly well known.

Mrs Madeleine Taylor-Quinn (FG) said it was sad that this elderly couple, who had set out on a nice autumn afternoon, should return in their coffins. Mr Enda Bonner (FF) and Mr Sean Ryan (Lab) also sympathised.
