The Labour Court has offered to intervene in the threatened strike at the

Herbert Park Hotel, in Ballsbridge, Dublin, writes Padraig Yeates. SIPTU staff at the 154-bed hotel have served strike action for tomorrow morning.

The court's offer to mediate depends on SIPTU deferring its action. However, the branch secretary, Mr Norman Croke, said last night that this was not acceptable. The dispute is over a decision to discontinue service charges.

The hotel's general manager, Mr Michael McBride, said the company had requested the Labour Court's intervention.
