Talks will continue today between the representatives of the rendering industry and the meat factories in an effort to find a solution to the back up of products caused by the BSE crisis.
The Government subsidy of £2.5 million, which prevented a complete shutdown of the industry in Easter week, expires today. The Minister for Agriculture, Mr Yates, has told renderers and factories it will not be renewed. He said they must come up with their own solution to the problem of surplus meat and bonemeal which is produced by the renderers.
