Dublin gardaí are investigating an incident in which two armed and masked men broke into a house, threatened the occupants and then stole cash and a van from the property.

The men forced their way into a house at Aylesbury, Tallaght, at around 11.30 p.m. on Thursday and threatened a 15-year-old babysitter, according to gardaí.

They waited until the owners returned at around 1 a.m. and then tied up both husband and wife. They assaulted the man, causing injuries to his face and arms.

Gardaí said the raiders left the house at 7 a.m. yesterday, taking a small amount of cash and a blue Toyota Hiace van belonging to the man. The injured man was taken to Tallaght Hospital. A Garda spokesman said last night that no arrests had been made.
