Boxing:World champion Katie Taylor will fight just twice this weekend after a third bout scheduled for Sunday was cancelled when Spaniard Jennifer Miranda pulled out last night.

Taylor will continue her preparations for the AIBA World Women’s Championships in China in April with bouts in her home town of Bray on Friday night and Saturday night.

She will meet Sandra Brugger of Switzerland and Ingrid Egner of Norway in the Royal Hotel, respectively, but Miranda’s late withdrawal is a setback, according to her father and coach.

“The way it happened was a bit of a disaster but from Katie’s point of view it’s real problem,” said Peter Taylor today. “It all happened too late to get a replacement for Katie but we have two good fights lined up.”

Taylor will be aiming for her fourth gold medal in succession at the Chinese World Championships in May.

That event will also act as the only Olympic qualifier for the inaugural Olympic boxing event for women.

Peter Taylor confirmed that anyone who bought a ticket for the Sunday fight will be reimbursed
