MAJOR T.B. McDowell, the Chairman and Chief Executive of The Irish Times Ltd, has decided that the two roles should be separated, and the Board has concurred in thin decision. He, will retain his role as full-time Chairman.

Mr Louis C. O'Neill (above), the present Group Managing Director and Deputy Chief Executive, is being appointed Chief Executive while retaining the position of Group Managing Director.

Mr O'Neill joined The Irish Times in 1958 and has been a director since 1974. In 1984 he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive and in 1991 Group Managing Director. In these positions he has contributed greatly to the success of the company.

The Editor, Mr Conor Brady, who has been a director since 1985, is being appointed, in addition, Editorial Director of The Irish Times Ltd.
