The referendum campaign plans of the main political parties will not be affected by yesterday's decision by RTE not to screen any "uncontested broadcasts" during the campaign.
Party sources said the ruling had been expected since the High Court's Coughlan judgement two weeks ago, and campaigns had been planned to exclude party political broadcasts of the traditional kind.
RTE said that following careful study of the judgment, it had concluded it was "virtually impossible to structure an arrangement which was fair, equitable and non-discriminatory".
