The violinist vs the harpsichordist

Ideas of crossover and fusion often leave one with questions about which element is likely to dominate or to be best served. But the idea of a concert platform being shared by two leaders in their own fields - modern violin virtuoso Maxim Vengerov, and harpsichordist (and period orchestra conductor) Trevor Pinnock - in repertoire that they can both claim as being part of their home territory, holds the promise of an invigorating and enlightening encounter.

You can hear what happens when the two men join forces as part of the NCH/The Irish Times Celebrity Series at the National Concert Hall on Thursday. The music on offer ranges from Corelli and Biber, through Handel and Bach, to Mozart and Beethoven.
