The Rough Magic Theatre Company can usually be relied upon to come up with something different. Their last outing was the premiere of a play by a 300-year-old playwright, Frances Sheridan, with some help from her new friends.

Now they have invaded Dublin's bustling Temple Bar with Boomtown, described as a "triple whammy" from three young-but-seasoned playwrights: Pom Boyd, Declan Hughes and Arthur Riordan.

The venue is an enclosed site in Meetinghouse Square, in which the plot veers between 1979, when the Pope came to Ireland, and today, when the Celtic Tiger is ravaging all before it. It is a before-and-after scenario, with characters to match, and with a beady eye on the millennium.
