Munster's victory over the All Blacks at Thomond Park in 1978 has become the stuff of legend - and recently of theatre. John Breen wrote and directs the funny-dramatic Alone It Stands (photo right), which has been celebrating the great win since mid-1999. A co-production of Ballina's Yew Tree and Limerick's Island companies, it played in all sorts of venues, from hotels to rugby clubs, steadily building a reputation as something special. Finally, it conquered Dublin, where John Breen was named best director at the recent Irish Times/ESB Awards. And still it tours, to venues as disparate as Portlaoise Prison and, next week, to Galway's opulent Town Hall Theatre. It has become a triumphal procession.
