BRITAIN: The third victim in the bodies in bin-bags case was named as 34-year-old Bridgette Cathy MacClennan as an unemployed man appeared in court charged with three murders.

Mr Anthony John Hardy appeared at Hendon Magistrates' Court, north London, charged with murdering Sally Rose White on or before January 20th, 2002, and with murdering Elizabeth Valad (29) and Miss MacClennan on or before December 30th, 2002.

Parts of the dismembered remains of Ms MacClennan and Ms Valad, who both lived in London, were found in bin bags and rubbish bins in north London in the early hours of December 30.

Ms White's body was found at Mr Hardy's address in January last year.

Mr Hardy (51) of Hartland House, Royal College Street, Camden, north London, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address during the court hearing.

He appeared in the dock clean shaven and wearing dark trousers and a dark and light blue sweatshirt. He had earlier been driven to the court in an unmarked people-carrier, and taken into the building through a rear entrance, his head covered by a blanket.

Chairman of the bench Mr Giovanni Fabrizi remanded Mr Hardy in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on January 13th.

Ms Valad, originally from Nottingham, was named on Saturday as one of the women whose body parts were found by a tramp foraging for food on Monday last week. Her head and hands are still missing.

The 29-year-old, who was also known as Liz or Lizzy, was identified by her breast implants.

The murder inquiry began last Monday when a street-sleeper found pieces of two human legs belonging to a woman wrapped in a plastic rubbish bag at the back of a pub in Camden, north London.

He took the parts to the nearby National Hospital for Tropical Diseases where staff called police who found seven other body parts in garbage bins, as well as a torso in Mr Hardy's nearby apartment.
