Three men were arrested after an armed robbery at a Centra store on Tower Road, Clondalkin, west Dublin, yesterday morning.
The three, armed with an imitation firearm and knives, threatened staff during the incident, which happened at about 8am.
They escaped on foot with a quantity of cigarettes and cash, but a short time later the three were apprehended and arrested near the scene by uniformed gardaí in the area.
An imitation firearm, two knives, cash and cigarettes were recovered.
Investigating officers said a car believed to have been stolen earlier in the Lucan area and used in the incident was also found.
The suspects, all in their 20s, were being held at Clondalkin Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Meanwhile, two people were remanded in custody on robbery charges following a weekend raid on Donal McGuigan’s jewellery premises at Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, in which a variety of items, valued at about €50,000, were taken.
The premises had been previously targeted by raiders last year, and more than €100,000 worth of valuables was stolen.
