Equestrian: Horse Sport Ireland has confirmed the three-day eventing team that will compete in the Olympic Games next month.

Army rider Captain Geoff Curran and Suffolk-based Louise Lyons are the two newcomers to the team, which includes Niall Griffin, who competed in Athens four years ago, and Sydney Olympians Austin O'Connor and Patricia Ryan.

Curran, whose 21st place at Barbury Castle at the weekend was Ireland's highest finish, will ride either Kilkishen or stable-companion Balladeer Alfred.

O'Connor's mount, Hobby du Mee, is the oldest horse on the team at 13, while Lyons will be partnered by 11-year-old Watership Down.

The squad will move into quarantine in Aachen, Germany, in 10 days' time before departing for Hong Kong on July 29th.

The games begin on August 8th.
