Two elderly women on holidays from the US died in a road accident in Co Mayo yesterday evening and a Dublin woman died in a collision in Raheny.
The American women, who were aged 69 and 77, died when the car in which they were passengers collided with another car on a road just off the bypass at Swinford.
The woman who was driving was taken to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar. She was believed to be suffering from shock. The driver of the second car was not injured in the accident, which occurred at about 5.25 p.m.
In Dublin, a woman aged 72 died after her car collided with a Dublin bus on James Larkin Road, Raheny, at about 6 p.m. The driver of the bus was not injured in the accident. The bus was not in service and no one else was on board.
