Three people arrested this morning in Dublin by gardaí investigating organised crime and dissident republican activity remain in custody tonight.

More than 100 members of the force carried out searches at properties across the city. Gardaí from the Special Detective Unit and the Garda Dog Unit were involved.

The operation uncovered a quantity of ammunition and a small amount of cocaine worth an estimated €500.

Nine searches took place in the north inner city, Fairview, Donaghmede and Artane.

A pub was among the properties searched. Some 9mm amunition rounds were found in a shed at the back of the bar.

Two men, aged 54 and 46, and a woman aged 55 were arrested during the operation.

They are being detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Store Street, the Bridewell and Whitehall Garda stations.

Labour Party TD for Dublin North Central Aodhán Ó Ríordáin welcomed today’s raids. “The continued existence of subversive groups is a worry, and while they are extremely small in number, we cannot afford to be complacent,” he said.

“Communities must unite behind the gardaí to ensure that these criminal organisations are consigned to the dustbin of history where they belong.”
