On Tuesday, a van was stopped on Arran Quay in Dublin city centre, and gardaí seized 200kg of what is believed to cannabis resin, estimated to be worth up to €1.4 million.

The male driver (60) of the van was arrested and taken to the Bridewell Garda station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act where he is currently being held.

Late the following night a premises in an industrial estate near Rathcoole, Co Dublin, was searched as part of a follow-up operation. A further seizure of cannabis, some 70kg, was made and the street value of this, subject to analysis, is estimated to be €400,000.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is being held under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act at Clondalkin Garda station.

Yesterday morning, another man (23) was detained in Dublin city centre and is being held at the Bridewell Garda station.
