Three men from Liverpool were arrested in two separate raids on a Dublin flat yesterday during which heroin with an estimated street value of £250,000 was seized.

The operation, which followed weeks of surveillance by officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit, began yesterday afternoon when gardai raided the flat in the Inchicore area of Dublin and seized the heroin. A man in his mid-30s and a second man in his early 20s were arrested at the flat under the Drug Trafficking Act.

One of the men is believed to have been acting as a courier for the drugs gang, while the second man is believed to have been one of the organisers of the shipment. A third man in his 30s, also from Liverpool, arrived in Dublin on a flight yesterday evening and was arrested a short time later at the same address as the first two men.

Gardai believe the gang was involved in shipping heroin from Liverpool to Dublin and had been operating for some months.
