Gardai are continuing to question three men arrested after bomb parts were found when two cars were stopped in Co Kildare last night.
The discovery was believed to be linked to criminal rather than terrorist activities and pointed to a possible connection with an on-going feud between a number of families in Limerick.
The three men detained by police were all from Limerick, two in their 30s and one aged 46. All three are being interviewed by detectives at Naas Garda station.
The cars were halted near the village of Kill on the main road between Dublin and Limerick, and component parts of an explosive device were uncovered in one of the vehicles.
The incident followed a police operation centring on the monitoring of the movements of a number of individuals from Limerick following the murder earlier this year near the city of Kieran Keane during a period when two brothers from one of the warring families, Kieran and Eddie Ryan, were reportedly abducted and held captive for more than a week.
Four people, one a woman, were questioned about the Keane killing after being picked up in Co Tipperary earlier this week.
