Army bomb disposal officers today discovered three rocket motors dating from the 1960s in a garden in west Dublin.

Police were alerted by the occupants of the house after they found the devices while digging in the garden in Ballyfermot.

The area was sealed off as an Army bomb disposal team examined the motors, which it said were not explosive.

An Army spokesman said they contained a propellant which would have been used to fire distress signals or to fire ropes between ships.
