World number one Tiger Woods may be forced to pull out of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am after injuring his knee in an incident with a fan.

Woods, due to begin the defence of his title at Spyglass Hill later today, jarred his left knee and sprained a ligament when he trod on the ankle of an "aggressive" autograph-hunting fan.

"My weight, his weight going forward coming at me, hyper-extended my knee," he said.

"I can't hit balls right now, no way. I tried to swing. It's not going to happen today.

"People get aggressive. It's one of the reasons we have the security we have," he said.
