GAA:All-Ireland champions Tipperary have seven representatives in the GPA hurling team of the year, with players from Kilkenny, Waterford and Galway completing the 15-man selection.
Brendan Cummins, Paul Curran, Pádraic Maher, Brendan Maher, Noel McGrath, Lar Corbett and Eoin Kelly are the Tipp men included.
Brendan Maher and Corbett are also nominated for the player of the year award, along with Kilkenny pair Tommy Walsh and Michael Fennelly.
The Cats pairing are joined by team-mates Jackie Tyrell and Richie Power in the team of year, while Waterford are representated by Noel Connors, Michael Walsh and John Mullane and Galway’s sole inclusion is half-forward Damien Hayes.
“It is a special honour to be recognised by your fellow hurlers and I would like to pay tribute to the 15 chosen by the players on this year’s Opel GPA Hurling Team of the Year,” said chairman of the selection committee Donal O’Grady.
“As a selection committee we chose who we believed were the three most deserving nominees for each position along with six midfielders, and the players then made the ultimate choice.”
Dessie Farrell, chief executive of the GPA, added: “For the second year running we have had a remarkable conclusion to the hurling championship with Tipperary this time overcoming the all-conquering Cats.
“The final was inspirational with both sides chasing history for very different reasons but the contribution of the players involved has been acknowledged by their fellow hurlers.
“Congratulations to all the winners and the nominees and to all the players who voted. Thanks to Donal O’Grady and his selection team and to Opel for their sponsorship of the GPA Awards.”
The hurler of the year will be announced at a Gala Night in the Citywest Hotel on November 5th.
