The Ulster Unionist deputy leader, Mr John Taylor, has been conferred with the title of Lord Kilclooney of Armagh. The title comes from the south Armagh parish of Kilclooney, which stretches from Newtownhamilton to Markethill.
Lord Kilclooney said: "I have been granted a title which reflects my family roots in south Armagh, and it is good that this district will now have a voice in the upper house of parliament."
The former UUP MP, Mr Ken Maginnis, who was also elevated to the peerage, will be known as Lord Maginnis of Drumglass. "It is the parish where my wife and I have lived for 40 years and reared our four children," he said.
