Tokyo will host the Inter-Continental Cup between the European and South American champion clubs on November 27th, organisers confirmed today.
"Following the collapse of [FIFA's marketing partner] ISMM-ISL, there had been doubts whether this year's Cup would be held in Tokyo or not, but we have finally received confirmation," said Kenji Mori of the Japan Football Association (JFA).
European champions Bayern Munich of Germany will take on title-holders Boca Juniors of Argentina at the National Stadium in Tokyo, kicking off at 10.10 (Irish time).
Bayern, the winners of the Inter-Continental Cup in 1976, qualified for the Europe-South America showdown by defeating Spain's Valencia in the European Champions Cup final.
Boca Juniors, who beat Real Madrid in Tokyo last year, won through by lifting the Libertadores Cup against Mexico's Cruz Azul.
It was Boca's fourth Libertadores Cup, following their victories in 1977, 1978 and 2000. They won their first Inter-Continental Cup in 1977.
