Racing: Irish jockey Peter Toole remains in a medically induced coma following his fall at Aintree on Saturday. The 22-year-old from Dunshaughlin suffered bleeding on the right side of his brain after falling from Classic Fly in the Maghull Novices' Chase.
He was taken immediately to nearby Fazakerley Hospital from where he was transferred to the Walton Centre for Neurology in Liverpool and placed in an induced coma.
Trainer Charlie Mann, to whom Toole is attached, said that the medical team will not attempt to revive the rider until after a CT scan later this evening.
“He's still in an induced coma,” Mann said today. “He has bleeding on the right-hand side of his brain and also dislocated a shoulder, which has been put back in place. He's on a ventilator and is due to have a CT scan tonight. They won’t try to wake him until after that.
"Hopefully, they will wake him sometime today, but we won't know anything until they bring him out of the coma."
The conditional jockey has ridden 30 winners this season. He suffered the injury when the 100-1 shot crashed into the first fence on Saturday.
Mick Fitzgerald visited Toole on Sunday and reported that the next 24 hours to be crucial in his hopes of recovery.
