A touring Irish dancer was killed in the United States when a pickup truck and the car she was travelling in collided.

A touring Irish dancer was killed in the United States when a pickup truck and the car she was travelling in collided.

Margaret Brohan (19) of Ennis, Co Clare - a member of the Rhythm of the Dance company - died about 20 minutes after the early morning accident yesterday in Robinson Township, a Pittsburgh suburb, according to Allegheny County police and the coroner's office.

Police said the pickup truck and the Volkswagen carrying Ms Brohan and four others crashed around at 1.30 a.m.

Four others were taken to hospital and at least one was in a critical condition, police said. Police said there were no witnesses and they did not know what caused the accident.

The dance troupe is in Pittsburgh for performances on Saturday and Sunday.
