Roads are closed off around the country today to facilitate St Patrick’s Day parades and celebrations.
The Dublin parade is now underway, following the usual route from Parnell Square to St Patrick’s Cathedral, before finishing at St Stephen’s Green. Roads are closed along the route, but will be reopened by gardaí as the parade passes.
Dublin Bus routes through the city centre will be diverted until 6pm. The Luas Red Line will operate from Tallaght or Saggart to Smithfield and there will be no service between Smithfield and Connolly or The Point.
A full Red Line service will resume at 2.30pm. The Green Line will operate a full service all day.
The west side of Merrion Square and Custom House Quay remain closed to accommodate the Festival Funfairs.
The Galway parade is also currently underway, with roads closed between Lower Dominic Street and Prospect Hill until the parade finishes at 1.30pm. Local city Bus Éireann services will resume at 2pm.
The Cork parade kicks off at 1pm, and road closures are in place along the route. Motorists are advised to use the North Quays from John Horgan Quay to Sundays Well and on the South Quays, use Georges Quay to Sullivan’s Quay and Frenches Quay to Weston Road.
The Limerick parade begins at 2pm, and roads are currently closed in the city centre. Road closures are also in place to accommodate the parade in Waterford City.
