Irish fugitive John Cunningham (49) has been sentenced by a Dutch court to nine years for trafficking in drugs and weapons worth more than £8 million.
However, he is expected to serve only six years.
A third of all sentences are remitted for good behaviour under the Dutch system.
The judges described the Ballyfermot man as "the ringleader who controlled an international drugs and weapons racket".
Cunningham can expect to have a year immediately taken off to account for the time he has already spent in custody since his arrest in March 2000.
After he has served the sentence, he faces extradition to Ireland to serve at least six years more, for kidnapping Ms Jennifer Guinness. Cunningham absconded from Shelton Abbey open prison, Co Wicklow, while serving 17 years for her kidnapping.
Yesterday he was convicted on 10 counts of possessing and trafficking over 300,000 ecstasy pills, two tonnes of cannabis, over 50kg of amphetamine and nearly 50 guns.
One haul included 15 machine pistols, 10 Smith and Wesson handguns and over 400 bullets, alongside almost 800kg of cannabis. They were discovered by accident in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, in December 1998.
The judges also ordered the seizure of nearly £60,000 worth of goods and money Cunningham and his wife had in Holland.
