Britain is set to be hit by yet more rain, following a day in which one man died as torrential downpours battered parts of the country.
Firefighters and divers spent hours battling to save the man after he became trapped in a flooded drain on Astral Close in the Hessle area of Hull.
The victim, thought to be in his 20s, was up to his neck in water after his foot got stuck as he helped clear out the drain.
Glenn Ramsden of Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the rescue had been an "absolutely desperate operation".
"The guy had been out just helping grandad to clear the drains and helping with the flood water that was coming in and unfortunately he slipped and got trapped down there and his foot got caught in some metal grating," he said.
Witnesses described seeing the man submerge under the water on several occasions as the water levels continued to rise.
Humberside Police confirmed the man had died, but gave no further details. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
Mr Ramsden said the weather in the area had been "absolutely torrential", causing huge operations all over the county.
He told Sky News that crews were now mounting a clean-up operation while knee deep in flood water and raw sewage.
A spokesman for Hull City Council said all areas of the city were experiencing flooding due to the large amounts of rain that had fallen, and systems being unable to cope
