A jury has recommended that anyone involved in felling trees should wear a safety helmet following the tragic death of a father-of-five.
ESB employee Danny Gallagher was cutting trees at the back of his brother’s home in November 2011 when he was struck on the head by a falling 12m (40ft) tree.
An inquest into Mr Gallagher’s death heard yesterday that the 48-year-old had cut down hundreds of trees during his lifetime. Letterkenny Coroner’s Court heard how Mr Gallagher had been cutting a number of trees at Doon Well, Termon, Co Donegal, on November 5th. The jury of two men and four women found death was consistent with a blunt injury to the head.
