A fresh tremor measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck northern Algeria today, less than a day after a quake struck the same Mediterranean region, but no injuries or damage were reported, state radio said.
"It's an aftershock. The epicentre is the same as the previous affected areas," an official from Algeria's Geophysical, Astronomical and Astrophysics Research Centre said on state radio.
It struck just before 8:00 a.m. Irish time and came shortly after a quake measuring 5.8 struck Algeria on Tuesday evening, believed to have killed several people and injuring up to 200.
A week ago a strong quake measuring 6.7 killed more than 2,200 people and injured almost 10,000.
