Sanaa - Poland's ambassador to Yemen has been freed unharmed three days after he was taken hostage by tribesmen demanding the release of a jailed comrade, Yemeni security officials said. Mr Krzysztof Suprowicz said yesterday he had refused to accept food during the kidnapping ordeal to show his captors who was in charge.

"I started my fast from the outset to show these proud and, by and large, honourable people that I was in ultimately in control, even though they may have controlled me physically," Mr Suprowicz said in remarks broadcast by Polish Radio 1.
