Newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror says improving advertising trends have continued after it reported increased revenue from ads and circulation in the first four months of the year.

The publisher of the Daily Mirrorsaid today like-for-like advertising revenue, excluding the regional titles in Ireland which it sold in January, was up 4.9 per cent in the first four months. Ad revenue at its regional titles was up 5.8 per cent and national titles were up 2.7 per cent.

The company's circulation revenues were up 7.7 per cent excluding the Ireland titles, with higher cover prices offsetting lower circulation volumes. It issued the statement ahead of its annual shareholder meeting today.

The Daily Mirroris in the midst of a high-profile row over its publication of photographs that it said shows British troops abusing an Iraqi prisoner. Political and media commentators have questioned the pictures' authenticity, but editor Mr Piers Morgan has said he stands by the story.
