North Munster experienced its first snow of the season yesterday. Snow ploughs were out at Shannon and up to 200 local authority workers gritted the main roads from 5.30 a.m.
Bus services in north Kerry and Limerick city and county were affected and there was a slight delay at Shannon Airport before noon. Most Limerick suburban bus services were called off in the afternoon. Clare council roads engineer Mr Dave Timlin said it had up to 50 men involved in salt-spreading on the national routes, which were kept clear. However, local roads in Limerick and Clare were in a dangerous condition.
