John Mac Gabhann has been appointed general secretary of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI).
Mr Mac Gabhann, the current assistant general secretary, will take over from Peter MacMenamin, who retires later this year. From Clonmel, Co Tipperary, Mr Mac Gabhann studied in UCD before teaching at Tallaght Community School.
The TUI represents more than 15,000 members in second-level schools, colleges of further education and institutes of technology.
