A Turkish national has been remanded on bail for sentence by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on February 20th on assault and knife charges.

Bulent Ozcan (26), with an address at Wainsfort Avenue, Thomas Bawn Court, Dublin, pleaded guilty to six charges arising out of an incident at Diggis Street on June 8th, 1996.

He admitted assaulting Deirdre O'Callaghan, Edward O'Callaghan and Alice Winstanley; possessing a knife while trespassing; having it to injure or intimidate; and producing the knife with intent to cause injury.

Judge Cyril Kelly was told by Mr Patrick Marrinan, defending, that the defendant was taken to hospital after the incident and placed under protective custody. Both Ozcan and the garda protecting him were assaulted and a number of people were before the courts as a result of that.
