Twelve people have been charged with riotous behaviour and possession of offensive weapons after a violent disturbance in Galway last night.

The accused were released on bail and are to reappear before Harristown court in Galway next Friday.

According to gardaí the violence arose from a dispute at a wedding. Up to 80 members of the Travelling community were reported to be involved in the incident.

Gardaí were called in at approximately 8 p.m. to the Castle Park area where the disturbance occurred. Nobody was seriously injured during the incident.
