A man and a woman pleaded guilty in Carrickmacross District Court yesterday to possession of ecstasy tablets, following a raid by gardaí in Ballybay, Co Monaghan.

Emma Counihan (21), Corrybrennan Park, Ballybay, and Eamon McGowan (26), Augherlane, near Ballybay, were charged with possession of ecstasy tablets discovered during searches on August 23rd last.

Gardaí stopped a car driven by Counihan in which McGowan was a passenger.

A search uncovered 43 ecstasy tablets in her handbag.

McGowan was also searched, and a bag containing nine ecstasy tablets was found taped to his underpants.

A further search of Counihan's residence led to the discovery of another 61 tablets.

Another search of a car belonging to McGowan uncovered five more tablets.

When charged both admitted their involvement in drug trafficking and said they shared the weekly profits.

The judge remanded Counihan and McGowan on bail to a further sitting of the court on September 28th for probation and welfare reports.
