Two arrested after Belfast stand-off

Two men have been arrested following an incident in the Powerscourt Place area of south Belfast this morning

Two men have been arrested following an incident in the Powerscourt Place area of south Belfast this morning. A firearm was recovered and has been removed for technical examination.

The area has been re-opened.

The PSNI surrounded a house in the area after reports that men with a firearm were in the building.

The area was sealed-off after a number of pellets were fired from the property hitting cars parked nearby.

Officers were called to the location in the lower Ormeau Road area of the city shortly before 5am and residents were asked not to leave their homes until the situation was resolved.

Police said the stand-off was related to a dispute over housing.

The house is set in a cul-de-sac off one of the main roads for commuter traffic making its way into Belfast.
