A man and a woman were arrested this morning over the death of a costume designer who was run over and killed after two thieves stole her handbag.

Detectives detained a 35-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman in north London just after midnight.

Both are being questioned over the attack which left Mrs Elizabeth Sherlock dying of horrific injuries after she chased the thieves out of Euston Station in daylight on Easter Monday.

She died after slipping under the wheels of a white Ford Fiesta outside the busy London rail terminus. The car was later found abandoned nearby.

Mrs Sherlock was having a coffee with her husband Peter when thieves took her bag containing just £20 and ran. Dozens of people rang the investigation hotline to give information on the incident.

Mrs Sherlock, of Chiswick in west London, worked on BBC programmes including Last of the Summer Wine, It's A Knockoutand the Royal Variety Performance.

She had recently finished working on her first feature film - The Four Feathers, a Hollywood production.
