Two men have been charged with murdering the former RUC officer discovered dead at his home at the weekend.

Mr William Kennedy who retired from the force 15 years ago was found dead by his daughter at his home in Ahoghill, Co Antrim last Sunday. Police do not believe his death is connected with his membership of the security forces.

Mr Alan McCook, 25, from Galgorm Road and Mr Mervyn Williamson, 21, from Brookfield Gardens both in Ahoghill pleaded not guilty to murder at Ballymena Magistrate's Court.

At the hearing today a Police Detective Sergeant said Mr McCook had made a statement indicating he had obtained the murder weapon but denied being involved in causing harm to Mr Kennedy.

Both men were remanded in custody until the new year.
