Gardai in Louth and Tipperary are investigating separate attacks on elderly people on Thursday night. In Hackballscross a man in his 70s was tied to a chair in his home while three men who had forced their way in ransacked the house and stole a small amount of cash and jewellery. The man was not injured.

In the second incident, an 80-year-old woman was robbed of cash when three women entered her home at Grangemockler, Clonmel, at around 9.30 p.m. No violence was used.
