Two members of Colombia's National Police were killed last night when a bomb exploded next to their station in an upper-class neighborhood of northern Bogota.
Three officers were injured along with four civilians. Police did not speculate on who might be responsible.
The 17,000-strong Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, the country's largest rebel army, has stepped up attacks on security forces in recent weeks after a lull during which President Alvaro Uribe, assisted by US aid, has increased military operations.
FARC has been fighting for socialist revolution for 40 years in a conflict that kills thousands a year. The organisation funds itself by demanding money from cocaine traffickers and kidnapping for ransom.
