Police in Northern Ireland were today questioning two men about the murder of a man in Derry yesterday.

The two men handed themselves over to detectives at Strand Road police station just hours after hundreds of people protested in the Creggan estate about the killing of Emmett Shiels (22).

One of those being questioned is in his late teens. The second man in his early 20s.

Detectives confirmed they are looking for a number of other men and have visited houses.

A spokesman said: "They should come forward."

Mr Shiels, from Derry's Bogside, was shot dead in the Creggan early yesterday morning during an altercation with masked men. Police said he was an innocent victim.

Dissident republicans linked to the INLA are suspected of involvement in the shooting.

Hundreds of people attended a protest rally last night, among them Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, a close family friend.

Community leader Conal McFeely said: "We in Creggan have come to a fork in the road. Do we turn down the road to peace, justice and fairness, or do we follow the people who shot Emmett, who would do the same to any one of us?"
